How to Check if Someone is Cheating in CS2: 7 Signals That Actually Matter (2026)

Think someone is cheating in CS2? Learn how to check any Steam profile with public data — friend bans, VAC history, and stats — and what CS2Scan weighs most.

There is no single stat that proves cheating in CS2. A legit Global with good crosshair placement looks identical to a careful soft-aim user on a scoreboard. The only reliable check is to look at patterns across an account's public footprint.

Here is how to check any player in under 60 seconds using only public Steam data — the same data CS2Scan uses.

1. Start with the friend graph, not the K/D

This is the most predictive public signal we found. When we calibrated CS2Scan against ~3,000 accounts from the Steam friend graph, ban density across friends separated banned from clean accounts with ROC-AUC ~0.75. Individual stats were near coin-flip.

Open the profile on CS2Scan and look at the Network engine. If 20-30% of their friends have VAC, game, or economy bans, that account did not assemble that friend list by accident. Clean high-trust players rarely sit in heavily banned clusters.

You can sanity-check this manually: Steam > Friends > check 20 random friends for red ban banners.

2. Check VAC and game ban provenance

Steam reports that an account has a VAC ban. It does not report which game triggered it.

  • A 5-year-old VAC from MW2 looks identical to a 2-day-old CS2 ban
  • Game bans are more specific, but CS2 game bans are still mixed with other Source games
  • Multiple bans + recent creation date = higher risk than one old ban on a 12-year account

CS2Scan's History engine weights this: number of bans, time since last ban, account age, and Steam level.

3. Look at Precision and Accuracy in context

Two engines where legit and cheating overlap the most:

  • Precision = headshot conversion rate. A 75%+ HS% across all weapons is unusual. Across only Deagle and AK? Less unusual.
  • Accuracy = shot-to-hit rate and consistency across weapon classes. A 35% overall accuracy with identical accuracy on AWP, Negev, and USP is not human.

Good players spike on 1-2 weapons. Cheats are consistent on everything.

4. Check Opacity

If a profile hides everything — private inventory, private friends, no CS2 stats, level 0 — the Opacity engine flags it. Private does not equal cheater, but it removes every signal that would exonerate them. Confidence drops accordingly and CS2Scan tells you that.

5. Don't trust K/D alone

Efficiency (K/D, kills/hour, MVP%, win rate) is the worst predictor in isolation. Deathmatch grinders, smurfs, and boosters all inflate it. CS2Scan weighs it lowest for that reason.

How to use CS2Scan correctly

  1. Paste the Steam URL or SteamID on cs2scan.org
  2. Read the confidence number first. If it says Low Confidence / N/A on 4 engines, you don't have enough public data to judge.
  3. Read Network and History before Precision/Accuracy.
  4. Use it as a second opinion. Report in-game — that's the only queue Valve acts on.

FAQ

Can you get VAC banned for checking someone? No. All data comes from the public Steam Web API.

What is the most accurate CS2 cheat checker? None is 100% accurate. Any tool claiming >90% on stats alone is overfitting. Look for tools that show confidence and publish methodology — that's what CS2Scan tries to do.

Is a high headshot percentage cheating? Not by itself. Crosshair placement, deathmatch routine, and playing only Rifler roles can push HS% above 65% legitimately.
